Overview

On September 6th 2024, The Artistic Bliss and the Berean Christian School – Lambwe, Homabay County came together to celebrate World Literacy Day ahead of the annual celebrations on 8th September.
With a vibrant array of activities that highlighted the importance of literacy and education, the event was a resounding success, engaging participants of all ages through a blend of creative and educational experiences.
The celebration featured a variety of activities designed to foster a love for reading and enhance literacy skills. One of the highlights was the painting and drawing session, where the learners expressed their creativity and explored themes related to literacy and learning. This artistic approach provided a unique way to engage with the theme of literacy, showing how art and reading can intersect.

In addition to the creative sessions, we hosted book readings in both Swahili : Ndoto Ya Nashipai and English: Ellah’s Bicycle. This bilingual approach not only celebrated linguistic diversity but also underscored the importance of multilingual literacy. Participants enjoyed stories from different cultures and languages, gaining a broader understanding of the world and the power of storytelling.
The event also featured several interactive challenges that tested and improved participants’ language skills. The spelling bee was a particular favorite, where competitors showcased their spelling prowess and enthusiasm for words. The word search activity provided a fun and engaging way for attendees to enhance their vocabulary while enjoying a bit of friendly competition.
The debate!! I’m still amazed at how Gen Alpha is good in AI.
As we reflect on the success of this year’s celebration, we are inspired to continue advocating for literacy and education in our community, country and the world at large. We look forward to more opportunities to engage with our community and promote the value of literacy in the years to come.
